Tactile Vision project
The Foundation has been a pioneer in its funding of the Provita tactile vision project undertaken by the Faculty of Medicine at the UCM and whose leading researcher is Dr. Thomas Ortiz.
Provita is a programme that works to improve the personal and professional living standards of blind people. It endows the blind with a visual sense that is achieved by repetitive passive tactile stimulation.
The technological breakthrough of Provita lies in eye-glasses with a small built-in camera that emits a signal to a flexible tactile stimulator applied to the palm of the hand and which translates the visual data collected by the micro-camera into tactile information.
The project has succeeded in uniting the two state-of-the-art areas of development of Neuroscience and Nanotechnology.
