Esther Koplowitz awarded the 2010 Júbilo Prize for her work in aid of the elderly.
Esther Koplowitz has been awarded the 2010 Júbilo Prize at the XII Edition of the Awards in recognition of her work aiding the elderly.
In 2001, the Esther Koplowitz Foundation, which is financed entirely from funds provided by its founder and president, donated a residential home for 140 impoverished elderly residents in Collado Villalba, Madrid. In 2003, it funded the construction and equipping of a second home in Barcelona, with a capacity for 137 residents and a further 30 in the day centre. In addition to its work in aid of the elderly, the Foundation has funded two other residential homes for the mentally and physically handicapped in Valencia and Valladolid, as well as launching the Esther Koplowitz Center, which opened on 3rd October and is dedicated to the study of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, metabolism, diabetes and diseases related to the digestive system, among others.
The long-standing Júbilo Prizes Awards aim to sensitise society to the problems of the elderly, to exalt their image, to encourage healthy aging and the figure of the active senior citizen as an ethical benchmark in society. The winners also include Tous, the jewellers, and the national soccer team coach, Vicente del Bosque.
